Aerotropolis

Detroit Region Aerotropolis Website

The Detroit Region Aerotropolis is an initiative to develop the area around Detroit Metro and Willow Run airports into an airport city or “aerotropolis.” This regional effort involves a partnership between Wayne and Washtenaw Counties, the Wayne County Airport Authority, the cities of Belleville, Romulus, Taylor, and Ypsilanti, and the townships of Van Buren, Huron, and Ypsilanti.

The primary goal of the Aerotropolis initiative is to support the economic development of Southeast Michigan and create thousands of jobs for residents of the region. To do this, we will market and brand the region in a unified manner, work with existing businesses in the region to understand their needs, coordinate land uses, and streamline regulatory processes for new development and business expansion.

The benefits of developing the Aerotropolis radiate well beyond the communities immediately surrounding the airports. Detroit Metro Airport draws passengers from all over Michigan, northern Ohio, southwest Ontario, and beyond. With plans to develop mass transit between Detroit and Ann Arbor, new jobs created through the Aerotropolis effort will become more accessible to residents of our region. Transit will also help connect airport passengers to our region’s established business, educational, and cultural institutions.

Through the Aerotropolis initiative, we have the potential to transform Southeast Michigan into a global hub for air commerce and create up to 64,000 jobs for our residents. For more information, please visit the Aertropolis website

Pinnacle Aeropark

Pinnacle Aeropark of Wayne County is a development project located south of Detroit Metropolitan Airport. Unlike any other business destination, the Pinnacle Aeropark builds upon the industrial and financial strength of the region to be an attractive location for new and emerging technology companies. With over 500 acres of planned high tech, logistics, retail, commercial, and recreational development, Pinnacle Aeropark is not simply a business location, but a community within a community.

Pinnacle is located in a Michigan SmartZone and Local Development Finance Authority / Tax Increment Financing district, allowing for specialized business and infrastructure investment. A master plan for implementing the Pinnacle Aeropark has been developed – including a phasing in of the proposed mix of land uses, infrastructure improvements and roads. Each phase will be market driven, resulting in the highest possible return on investment for companies and developers.
