Transportation & Infrastructure

Situated along the banks of the Detroit River and connected to the Great Lakes water system, Wayne County has been a hub of trade for its entire history; first by sea, then by rail and highways, and now by air. Our County is strategically located in the heart of the Midwest along the North American trade corridor, only a mile from Canada, and we are endowed with some of the best infrastructure in the United States. Our region is consistently ranked among the most “logistics-friendly” places in the U.S. with 20% of the U.S. population (60 million people) accessible by overnight trucking. We are also strategically located when it comes to emerging Asian air cargo routes. Our businesses recognize the advantages of Wayne County when it comes to locating their business, exporting their goods, and connecting with the rest of the global economy. With brand new airport facilities, vast intermodal capacity, and plans to develop new border crossings with Canada, Wayne County is ensuring that it remains a leader in trade in the 21st century and beyond.
