Communications and Community Collaboration

The Communications and Community Collaboration (C & CC) unit works to keep Wayne County residents informed about services and programs available through the public mental health system and builds relationships with community organizations that enhance public understanding and access to mental health care.

  • Free H1N1 clinics help protect mental health consumers, workers 500 expected to get immunized at Dec. 2nd and 3rd clinics from 11 a.m. -3 p.m. (December 3, 2009)
    Detroit, Michigan -- The Detroit-Wayne County Community Mental Health Agency (D-WCCMHA) will host a free two-day H1N1 flu vaccination clinic on December 2 and December 3 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m., with a special focus on persons with disabilities, group home residents and staff, Medicaid beneficiaries, clients and staff of substance abuse programs and other vulnerable populations.

  • Agency protests excessive cuts to mental health services in Detroit-Wayne County (October 7, 2009)
    Detroit, Michigan – The Detroit-Wayne County Community Mental Health Agency criticized Wednesday’s announcement by a state official that the Michigan Department of Community Health will implement a $40 million statewide reduction in state general funds for mental health by cutting over 50 percent -- $20.7 million – from services for residents in Detroit and other Wayne County communities.

  • NEW ! Agency launches essay contest for high school students
    The Detroit-Wayne County Community Mental Health Agency is sponsoring an essay writing contest for Detroit and Wayne County High School Students (9th-12th graders) on the importance of good mental and physical health, how to maintain a healthy disposition, and how to combat stigma related to receiving mental health or chemical dependency treatment.
    High school students can win prizes valued up to $500 by entering original essays addressing the following themes:
    • Why Both Good Physical Health and Good Mental Health are Important
    • How Teens Can Ensure Their Own Good Health
    • How Friends Can Help Friends Stay Mentally & Physically Healthy
    • How To Eliminate Stigma About Teens with Mental Illness

  • The REE is coming (August 19, 2009)
    Detroit, Michigan – The Detroit -Wayne County CMH Agency is implementing the Recovery Enhancing Environment (REE) measures. The REE is a survey that collects information about recovery from consumers. It helps show how programs support recovery.The REE will be available soon at participating Service Providers.   • The Advocate News (August 10, 2009)
    Wayne County, Michigan – Mental health services are being reduced to residents without Medicaid or other insurance following a 15% cut in a portion of state general funding allocated to the Detroit-Wayne County Community Mental Health Agency. The Michigan Department of Community Health is responsible for cutting the funding. Mental Health and Substance Abuse Administration Director Michael Head made the reduction using a so-called “funding equity” model. (To see the newsletter and read more, click here.)

    Wayne County, Michigan – The Detroit-Wayne County Community Mental Health Agency is increasing awareness of mental health within the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community with its debut in the new Pride Source directory.

    Ann Arbor, Michigan – The Michigan Association for Infant Mental Health is presenting its Betty Tableman leadership award to Veda A. Sharp, LMSW, the acting executive director of the Detroit-Wayne County Community Mental Health Agency.

  • Mental Health Agency keeps focus on consumers and services while working with MCPN (June, 2009)
    Detroit, Michigan –The Detroit-Wayne County Community Mental Health Agency continues to make the health and services of consumers a top priority as the Agency works to ensure they are not impacted by a 120-day notice issue of contract termination to Synergy Partners LLC, one of five Managers of Comprehensive Provider Networks (MCPNs) for the Detroit-Wayne County system.
