Food Establishment Plan Review
Note: Approval through the Wayne County Environmental Health Division does not negate
an owner's responsibility to obtain the necessary city or township permits.
Every food service facility must meet the requirements of Michigan's Food Law 2000,
Act 92, Public Act 2000. The Food Service Plan Review Unit of the Environmental
Health Division ensures that structural, plumbing, ventilation and other construction
guidelines are properly met in each facility prior to operation.

The Plan Review Submission Instructions, the Application and the Worksheet may be
obtained above, at the Division office, or by calling (734) 727-7400
The completed Application and Worksheet must be accompanied by one [1] set of drawings
equipment specifications and the appropriate fee (see Fee Schedule above). This
information should be submitted several weeks before construction is to begin. The
owner of the facility will be notified in writing as to the acceptability of the
submitted plans. Upon approval, it is the operator's responsibility to contact the
Environmental Health Division to schedule an opening inspection.
A new or remodeled food service facility may not operate until approval is received
in writing from a representative of the Health Department. This approval would be
granted once the State of Michigan Food Service License has been applied for, a
Certified Food Manager has been enrolled, and all stipulations that have been listed
on the initial plan approval letter have been met.
The Food Service Plan Review Unit will review plans pertaining to all fixed and
mobile facilities. Note that facilities which have been closed for more than six
[6] months or which have been damaged by fire or other means may be required to
be processed through the Plan Review before an approval is granted. Contact the
Environmental Health Division for more details at: (734) 727-7400
