Biography - James A. Bivens, Jr.
Chief of Investigations
James A. Bivens, Jr. began his career with the Office
in 1996, and became Chief of Investigations in 2005. He retired in 1992 from the
Detroit Police Department, Homicide Section where he was the Officer In Charge of
Squad 8, an intelligence-gathering unit. During that time, he and his squad gathered
intelligence on several organizations trafficking in cocaine, marijuana and involved
in execution style murders. Their work resulted in closing several narcotic related
murders. He worked closely with DEA, ATF and other Federal Agencies and participated
in an ATF task force.
He has lectured at several schools throughout the tri-county area, working closely
with Learning For Life, an arm of the Boy Scouts of America. He speaks to young
adults about careers in Law Enforcement and more importantly, life choices and the
consequences of making the wrong choice.
The duties of this office include, but are not limited to:
- Security for the Wayne County Prosecutor and the office.
- Liaison officer between the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office and other Chiefs
of Law Enforcement Agencies throughout the county relative to training, legislation,
and emergency management issues.
- Assist in investigations with law enforcement agencies throughout the County of
Wayne. (Currently there are 43)
- Conduct investigations instituted by this office.
- Investigate and aggressively pursue deadbeat dads through our Felony Non-Support
Unit.
