Biography - Curtis W. Smith
Special Assistant
Mr. Smith is a graduate of Cleveland State University and Wayne
Statue University Law School. He joined the prosecutor's staff in 1980. Before his
retirement in 1997, Mr. Smith's contributions to the office included service in
the juvenile division, pretrial and screening, general trials and appeals. Following
his retirement he established a successful private practice specializing in criminal
defense, real estate and family law. He returned to the prosecutor's office in 2004
bringing with him 27 years of legal experience in several areas. He currently serves
as special assistant to the prosecutor.
Mr. Smith's duties are diverse. He handles the Wayne County District Court pre-trials,
preliminary exams, misdemeanor trial dockets as well as felony jury trials. He coordinates
issues dealing with the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), fugitive apprehension,
extradition and forfeiture issues pertaining to Operating Under the Influence of
Alcohol cases, as well as special investigations.
