Senior Prescription Savings Program

About the Program

Wayne County's Senior Prescription Savings Program offers an excellent opportunity for residents 55 and over to save money on necessary medication. Seniors can save up to 13 percent over the average wholesale price on drugs purchased at any participating pharmacy and up to 50 percent on mail-in savings from generic medicine.

Representatives at the County's Patient Care Management Systems can help citizens understand what drugs may be covered by the county's savings card and what comes under the Medicare program. The aim is to expand the safety net to cover a wider assortment of needed medication.

Call 1 (866) 896-3450 for an application. Within 10 days of filling out the forms the card will be sent to you. See additional pages for a question and answer form about this card, administered by the nationwide Pharmaceutical Care Network. Already 12,000 seniors have started saving through this free card.

Your Coverage would include:

  • Any drug that requires a physician's prescription

  • Prescription mail order services

  • Thousands of participating pharmacies nationwide

  • Wellness information

You qualify for the Senior Savings Card if:

  • You are a Wayne County Resident
  • You are 55 or older
  • You have no other co-pay coverage (even if you have a deductible,
  • but no co-pay, you qualify)

Senior Prescription Savings Program FAQ

Q. Who is eligible to receive a card for the Senior Prescription Savings Program?
A. You must be over 60 years old and maintain a Wayne County address. You can use it as long as you don’t have another co-pay coverage. If you have a deductible, but no co-pay, you also would qualify.

Q. Where do I apply for a card?
A. You can complete the application and mail it to Senior Prescription Savings Plan, 640 Temple, Suite 370, Detroit, MI 48201-2558. If needed, we will send you an application if you call our toll free number. (866) 896-3450.

Q. How much can I save?
A. You can save up to 13 percent over the average wholesale price on medications you purchase at any participating drug store, clinic or warehouse pharmacy. Costco and CVS are just a couple of the chains that participate. For medication you take monthly you may send in the prescription, your check and an application form to get up to 50 percent savings on generic medicine.

Q. How does the new Senior Prescription Savings Program differ from the old Wayne County Card?
A. Wayne County now makes it easy to shop at up to 2,000 neighborhood and national chain pharmacies in Michigan, and at least 45,000 pharmacies nationwide accept this card, administered by the Pharmaceutical Care Network, www.pharmcarenet.com.

Q. How does the card work?
A. Just present your card from instant savings at any participating drug store. For other savings you need to mail in your prescription. You only complete the Patient health Profile/Order Form once - unless your health condition changes - and use a preprinted refill label on the refill envelope.

Q. What prescription does the discount card cover?
A. You can use any type of drug that requires a physician's prescription. This includes generic and name brand rugs. It doesn't include over-the-counter drugs like Motrin or Aleve.

Q. When can I start saving money on prescriptions?
A. As soon as you recieve your card you can use it. If you call you order over the telephone, give the pharmacist your identification number and PCN group number, you'll find located on the front of your card.
