Suspected online predator wanted 14-year old to go Chicago with him for a concert and sex
- Deputies also find child porn on 25-year old Milan man’s computer
Wayne County Sheriff’s deputies have charged a 25-year-old Milan man with seven counts of illegal use of the Internet and child sexually abusive behavior after he showed up for a pre-arranged meet where he expected to have sex with who he thought was a 14-year-old girl he met online, Sheriff Warren C. Evans announced today.
According to investigators, Brian Palmer wanted the girl, actually an undercover sheriff’s deputy, to go to Chicago with him for the weekend to see a concert, take some drugs and engage in sex with him and potentially several other partners. A subsequent trip to Wisconsin for another concert and more sex also was discussed in the chats.
Evans said that Palmer, who chatted with the deputy for about two weeks, wanted the girl to simply leave with him without giving her parents any notice she was leaving or explanation for her absence. He was arrested Friday after showing up at a prearranged meet location in Macomb County.
“The disturbing part of this case is the fact that Mr. Palmer says he feels that he did nothing wrong since the girl supposedly consented to his plans,” Evans said. Under Michigan law, anyone under the age of 16 cannot legally consent to participate in a sexual act.
Palmer, who says he is a licensed massage therapist, only recently moved to the area. At the time of his arrest, Palmer had in his possession both Florida and Ohio driver’s licenses and couldn’t remember his new address in a section of Milan that falls in Monroe County.
Suspect faces child pornography charges
Evans also said that further investigation revealed that Palmer had pornographic movies on his computer clearly involving children. “Because his computer was at his home in Monroe, we are forwarding this information to the Milan police department, which likely will pursue additional charges of possession of child pornography,” Evans said.
Palmer was arraigned on Monday and is being held at the Wayne County Jail on $200,000 cash bond. If convicted of his current charges he faces up to 20 years in prison. Palmer’s next court date is scheduled for October 12 th in 31 st District Court.
