"Operation LAST CALL" takes 86 repeat drunk drivers off the road prior to St. Pat's weekend --- Arrest total is most ever in annual multi-agency three day sweep

arrestA total of 86 convicted drunk drivers with outstanding warrants were arrested between Wednesday and Friday of this week during Operation LAST CALL, according to Wayne County Sheriff Warren Evans. The three day sweep, which also included officers from the Michigan State Police and a dozen suburban police departments, was designed to round up the area's most dangerous "Deadbeat Drunk Drivers" before the onset of the St. Patrick’s Day holiday.

"Operation LAST CALL" targeted many of the thousands of offenders at large who have been charged with, or convicted of, drinking and driving offenses but who have failed to show in court or violated their probation. According to Wayne County's 3rd Circuit Court and Prosecutor records, there are more than 6,000 offenders currently at large in suburban Wayne County alone for a variety of drinking & driving offense, including: OUIL Third Offense; OUIL Serious Injury and OUIL Manslaughter.

Evans said he was thrilled with the results of the sweep, which netted more arrests than in any other previous operation.

"Knowing that 86 ticking time bombs have been taken off the streets prior to the beginning of the St. Patrick’s Day holiday if extremely gratifying," Evans said. "Because these are all serious and repeat offenders, the odds that one of them might have killed or injured someone this weekend was very high."

Evans praised the officers from each agency for their hard work and cooperation and their commitment to keeping roadways safe in Wayne County.
