The Office of the Wayne County Treasurer, as the foreclosing governmental unit, under MCL 211.78 et seq., Public Act 123 of 1999, has filed a Petition for Foreclosure in the Wayne County Circuit Court, Case No. 08-114780 PZ. The Petition requests the properties forfeited to the Wayne County Treasurer on March 1, 2008, and/or on March 1 of a prior year, for failure to pay delinquent taxes, interest, penalties, and fees, be foreclosed in favor of the Wayne County Treasurer.
Public Act 123 of 1999 requires the publication of a list of the properties which remain forfeited, together with the parcel description and the name of all persons appearing to have an interest in each property. The list is set forth below. The names and addresses and legal descriptions have been obtained from the records of the local treasurers, assessors, Wayne County Register of Deed and the Office of the Wayne County Treasurer.
PUBLICATION DEADLINE. To meet the publishing deadline, this list of parcels was created during the last week of October 2008. If your property appears on the list and you have made a payment between the last week of October and the date of this publication, you may confirm the payment by visiting www.treasurer.waynecounty.com and accessing the “pay-on-line” function or call the Wayne County Treasurer’s Office at (313) 224-5990.
NOTICE OF SHOW CAUSE HEARING. Any person with an interest in the property may appear in person, or through an agent, or in writing to show cause why the title to the forfeited property should not vest absolutely in the Wayne County Treasurer. The Show Cause Hearing will be held January 6, 7, 8, and 9, 2009 at 9:00 a.m. each day at 400 Monroe, 8th Floor, Detroit, Michigan 48226. Please use the following schedule, which is organized by property location, to determine which day to attend. Note that for property located within the City of Detroit, the schedule for Show Cause Hearing is organized by ward. The first two digits of the Property ID number identify the ward.
- City of Detroit Wards 1 thru 9, and All Other Communities – January 6, 2009.
- City of Detroit, Wards 10 thru 20 – January 7, 2009.
- City of Detroit, Ward 21 – January 8, 2009.
- City of Detroit, Ward 22 – January 9, 2009.

NOTICE OF JUDICIAL FORECLOSURE HEARING. A Judicial Foreclosure Hearing will be held pursuant to MCL 211.78k on February 12, 2009 commencing at 9:30 a.m. before Chief Judge William J. Giovan in the Wayne County Circuit Court, 701 Coleman A. Young Municipal Center, 2 Woodward Ave., Detroit, Michigan 48226. A person claiming an interest in a parcel of property who desires to contest the Petition, shall file written objections at least seven (7) days prior to the hearing date with the Judge’s Court Clerk, and serve Wayne County Treasurer with a copy addressed to the Wayne County Treasurer, Attention Forfeiture Hearings, 400 Monroe Street, Suite 660, Detroit, Michigan 48226. If no objection is filed, the Court may enter a Judgment of Foreclosure as to the parcel of property. A person with an interest in a property listed below may lose his or her interest in the property as a result of the foreclosure proceeding brought pursuant to MCL 211.78k.
Unless all forfeited unpaid delinquent taxes, interest, penalties, and fees are paid on or before the March 31 immediately succeeding the entry of a Judgment foreclosing property under MCL 211.78k, or in a contested case within 21 days of the entry of a Judgment foreclosing the property under MCL 211.78k, the title to the property shall vest absolutely in the Wayne County Treasurer as the foreclosing governmental unit.
SUBSTANTIAL FINANCIAL HARDSHIP APPLICATIONS. If you are the owner of a parcel on this list, which you occupy as your principal residence, you may qualify for a Substantial Financial Hardship Extension. If you qualify for the Hardship Extension, you can receive an extension to pay the taxes. Consideration for the Hardship Extension requires that:
- The property is your personal residence
- The property is deeded in your name
- Your household income meets the federal poverty income standards.
Applications for a Substantial Financial Hardship Extension will be available after December 1, 2008. For more information about the Hardship Applications and Policy, please contact the Wayne County Treasurer at (313) 224-6105 after December 1, 2008.
