Wayne County hosting Detention pond maintenance workshops
Wayne County, Michigan – Wayne County is showing how residents can put rainwater to work in their backyards while helping the local environmnent.
Two Detention Pond Maintenance workshops will be conducted this fall by the County’s Department of Environment, hosted by Van Buren Township and the City of Romulus. These workshops are no cost and open to anyone interested in building and maintaining detention ponds for their home or business. Participants will learn about pond maintenance, the right kind of vegetation to use, and who can assist in building a pond. Other topics will include information on green buffer zones, environmentally-friendly maintenance along creeks and rivers, and healthy lawn care.
The first workshop will be held at the Romulus City Hall, 11111 Wayne Road, on Wednesday, October 18, 2006 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. The second workshop will be held at the Van Buren Township Hall’s Otisville-Sheldon Room, 46425 Tyler Road on Tuesday, October 24, 2006 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Registration for both workshops begins at 6:30 p.m. For more information and/or registration, please call Jeanette Plummer, Wayne County Department of Environment, at 734-326-3936.
