China conference to assist in opening trade channels

Dear Sir or Madam:

Wayne County will hold a half-day seminar on "China Conference" on June 6, 2007 at the Fairlane Center University of Michigan Dearborn. The event will include keynote speakers with vast knowledge on China and concurrent workshops in diverse fields. The program is enclosed herewith.

As you may know. Wayne County. under the leadership of County Executive Robert Ficano, has become the leader on promoting trade and Investment opportunities between Wayne County and the Detroit Region, and China. In order to assist mid-small businesses to reach out and stay competitive in global economy, we have signed business partnerships with Chongqing, Wuhan, and Nanjmg. We have opened our first office in Chongqing, the largest city in China with a population of 32 million people, and plan to open two more offices this year in two other cities to help business exchanges in the regions. Tianjing with a population of 13.5 million people has asked us to have similar arrangements as well. With these four cities, we can reach and serve regions with a population of over 80 million people.

Executive Ficano has led two successful trade missions to China. We have attracted several businesses to open offices here including Century Automotive that has purchased a 480.000 square foot building. An R&D facility will partially occupy the space and they plan to hire about 200 engineers. Several of the businesses that participated in our previous trade mission have also opened offices in China and have penetrated the automotive market. Partnering with China is indeed a win-win situation.

Our conference will focus on businesses in the automotive, environmental technology, and cargo/logistics, as well as general import/export activities. From this conference, we will recruit potential participants that will participate in our trade mission this October to be led by County Executive Robert Ficano.

On behalf of Wayne County, I would like to invite you and your company to participate and support this exciting event.

Thank you very much for your past and present support.
Sincerely,
Mulugetta Birru, Ph.D.
