Balancing home budget a key to achieving success
Experts agree the surest tools to helping overcome poverty are finance and parenting skills. Banking, credit repair, home ownership, managing a home budget and tax preparation are skills that can offer nearly everyone financial independence.
Good parenting tips and anger management are other keys to achieving success and keeping healthy families intact.
In cooperation with the Michigan State University Extension office, Wayne County’s Department of Children and Family Services is offering countywide programs to help low- and moderate-income families thrive.
"Building Strong Families" is a free in-home program offered to qualified parents with newborn children and up to age 3. The often-difficult task of raising youngsters is explored. "Money Smart" offers training to those professionals dealing directly with lower income parents and families. Classes are 1½ days and focus on families with limited resources. (Note: There is a fee for the Money Smart class).
"Alternatives to Anger" is also offered to educators and qualified lower-income families. Child development in various stages and learning to handle those changes are highlighted. Discipline is also explored.
