Veterans Service Day |
| |
Wyane County, in conjunction with the county's Board of Commissioners, is
hosting a Veterans Service Day on April 30. Health-screenings, service
officers, employment services and many programs relating to veterans will be
available. The event runs from 9:30 a.m. through 1:30 p.m. at the Samaritan
Center, 5555 Conners, Detroit. Veterans and their families are invited to this

National Transportation Week (NTW) May 11-17, 2008 |

 In honor of National Transportation
Week (NTW) May 11-17, 2008, Wayne County is again working with
colleges, universities, organizations and businesses across the state to host a
"Transportation Education Expo". This event will focus on all modes of
transportation. I would like to invite you to participate in this event as an
exhibitor to help our next generation understand and meet the transportation

Main Street Facade Improvement
Program |

 The
Greater Wayne County Economic Development Corp. has established the Wayne
County Facade Improvement Program, specifically targeting those municipalities
designated by the county as distressed, including: Highland Park; Hamtramck;
Inkster; Ecorse; River Rouge and Detroit. The program will be administered by
the Wayne County One-Stop Business Resource Center. For more information

County Executive Robert A. Ficano today unveiled a new plan to expand the Cobo
Hall Convention Center, increase convention business, protect jobs, and enhance
the annual North American International Auto Show.

Wayne County Facility Earns "Gold
Award" for 2007 |

WAYNE COUNTY, MI - Wayne County's
Wastewater Treatment Facility in Wyandotte served 13 Downriver communities in
2007 without a water quality permit violation, earning the National Association
of Clean Water Agencies' prestigious "Gold Award."
"Justin Verlander wasn't the only one who pitched a no-hitter in 2007," said
County Executive Robert A. Ficano. "Our hardworking team at the
Department of Environment, and our outstanding staff at the Downriver Facility
delivered 12 perfect months of cleaner water, better service, and more value
for our residents."

Wayne County cuts ribbon, signaling
completion of eight-month bridge project |
| |
 Wayne
County today opened the county-operated Grosse Ile Bridge, a project that
started in May and links the island township to the mainland in Trenton. The
$5.7 million project provided new bridge decking, sidewalks and curbing,
guardrails and extensive work below the bridge deck. The project also included
14,000 pounds of bolts and nearly 26,000 square feet of new steel grating.
Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano was joined in a ribbon cutting by civic
officials from Trenton, Grosse Ile, Riverview and the Wayne County Commission.
The bridge opened officially at noon.
