  Wayne County cuts ribbon, signaling completion of eight-month bridge project
 
Wayne County today opened the county-operated Grosse Ile Bridge, a project that started in May and links the island township to the mainland in Trenton. The $5.7 million project provided new bridge decking, sidewalks and curbing, guardrails and extensive work below the bridge deck. The project also included 14,000 pounds of bolts and nearly 26,000 square feet of new steel grating. Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano was joined in a ribbon cutting by civic officials from Trenton, Grosse Ile, Riverview and the Wayne County Commission. The bridge opened officially at noon.

  County officials team up to stem the tide of domestic violence in Wayne County
 

Many of the worst domestic abusers in Wayne County who have thumbed their nose at the system after being arrested or convicted are getting a message this week that they can run but they can't hide. 

As part of Project Safe House, Sheriff Warren Evans, Prosecutor Kym Worthy and County Executive Robert Ficano have targeted more than 300 hundred of the most recalcitrant individuals across the county who have failed to show up for court on a domestic violence related charge or have violated their probation on a domestic violence related conviction.

  Wayne County Wants Community Members to RAP with NAP for the second year
  October 2007 - The Wayne County Nuisance Abatement Program (NAP) is hosting its second annual RAP with NAP forum for the community. NAP is focused on rehabilitating abandoned and blighted properties in Wayne County. This year they are focusing on the theme of "Building Opportunities for Success" where they will be highlighting success stories regarding the efforts to create and maintain clean and safe neighborhoods.

  Wayne County's TURBO powers investments, job growth
 

terbo 90In its first year, Wayne County's new tax-incentive program, Transforming Underdeveloped Residential & Business Opportunities (TURBO), has helped launch more than $40 million in economic investment countywide and created hundreds of jobs, Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano announced today.

A program of the Wayne County Land Bank, TURBO provides cash reimbursements to property owners who make significant real estate investments in the county. For new construction or total rehabilitation projects, developers may receive a 100-percent tax rebate for the first year of construction and an amount equal to 50-percent of their taxes in cash rebates over the next five years.

  Wayne County agrees to buy Guardian Building
  In a cost-saving move that is expected to relocate Wayne County government and save taxpayers millions of dollars, the county has agreed to purchase the historic, 40-story Guardian Building in downtown Detroit for $14.5 million, Wayne County Executive Robert A. Ficano announced today.

  Important Fireworks Safety Facts
  Wayne County Executive Robert A. Ficano is concerned that there has been a statistically significant upward trend in fireworks injuries since 1996. In 2005 there were 10,800 emergency room-treated injuries associated with all fireworks in 2005. Most of these injuries, 6,500, occurred between June 18 and July 18, 2005. In the previous year, there had been 9,600 injuries during 2004.

To help observe National Transportation Week, the first Wayne County Transportation Education Expo will take an exciting look to the future and a nostalgic ride in the past from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. May 18 at Nankin Mills in Westland.   5 QUESTIONS WITH: Livonia man sold underpass to politicians
 

I attended a Plymouth Township board meeting in the spring, interested in the trustees' scheduled vote on the long-awaited Sheldon Road underpass. But it was the last agenda item; when I got frustrated waiting, I left.
