Conviction of Internet predator adds to Sheriff’s
100% success rate ---
Ypsilanti man sentenced today to between 20 months & 20
years in prison
In addition to being one of the nation’s most successful
departments in arresting Internet sexual predators, the Wayne County
Sheriff’s Office is maintaining an incredible 100% conviction
rate, said Sheriff Warren C. Evans. In fact today, an Ypsilanti
man arrested by his Internet Crime Unit in June was convicted today
in Third Circuit Court.
Twenty-one year old Justin McClain pled guilty to illegal use
of the Internet and was sentenced to serve between 20 months and
20 years in prison. McClain, 21, was sentenced by Third Circuit
Court Judge Vera Massey Jones.
Of the 23 predators arrested by the unit this year, 20 have been
convicted, with the other three cases still pending. The unit also
has arrested seven other people on different charges, including
parole violation stemming from previous sex-related convictions.
“The fact that we have a perfect record so far with our
convictions is a testament to the meticulous work done by our Internet
officers,” Evans said. “Every word of every chat is
documented on our side and then confirmed on the suspect’s
computer after we seize it and perform the forensics. It takes
a very special kind of person to be able to chat like a teenager,
yet perform flawless police investigations,” Evans added.
McClain was arrested on June 17th in Dearborn after setting up
a meet with an undercover Wayne County Sheriff’s Deputy he
believed to be a 14-year old girl. In his chats, McClain said he
wanted the girl to move in with him and have his children. » Go To Top |
