Sheriff's deputies blitz Highland Park criminals

--- Citywide "saturation" enforcement covers all areas of crime

In a blow to criminals of all types in the city of Highland Park, Wayne County Sheriff's deputies have been flooding the city this week with an overwhelming police presence that ranges from heightened traffic enforcement to shutting down drug houses to fugitive apprehension and everything in between.

"Over the past few years our officers have had a tremendous impact in lowering the overall crime rate and providing prompt, reliable service to residents," said Sheriff Warren Evans. "Now we are taking things to another level. Focusing our efforts with an intensive, coordinated response like this will send a clear message to criminals that we are only getting more serious about running them out of business."

The effort, called "Operation CRUSADERS," focuses on specific types of crimes in the areas they are known to occur. For the operation, Evans has mobilized units throughout the sheriff's office, including:

  • Narcotics enforcement/search warrants
  • Adult/juvenile fugitive apprehension
  • Parolee & Probationer home checks
  • Prostitution Enforcement
  • Increased Traffic Enforcement
  • Abandoned vehicle recovery & towing
  • Child Rescue (abuse/neglect cases)
