Deputies make Internet predator “triple play”
- Online enforcers nab 3 suspected child predators in 24-hour period.
- One suspect to be charged in case involving actual 14-year-old boy
Wayne County Sheriff’s Internet deputies have arrested three suspected online child predators in a single 24-hour period, Sheriff Warren Evans announced today. It is the first time that the unit, which has nearly 100 arrests to its credit, has arrested three suspects in one day. While two of the cases are typical in that they involve an adult male arranging to have sex with who he thinks is an underage girl, but who in reality is an undercover officer. The third case, however, stems from a complaint from the family of a 14-year-old Inkster boy who told investigators that he met the suspect online and was lured into having sex with him. Using information provided by the family, a sheriff’s deputy went online posing as a fictitious 14-year-old boy and was quickly solicited by the suspect, Steven Foster, 37, of Detroit.Evans said these cases show that despite online enforcement from numerous agencies, parents need to monitor their kids’ Internet and computer activity very closely.“Protecting children is one of the highest priorities for those of us in law enforcement and that’s why we conduct these kinds of investigations,” Evans said. “The police, however, are the last line of defense. Parents need to be the first line of defense by being actively involved in their children’s lives and watchful of what they are doing on the computer.”Below is a timeline of the 24-hour period in which the arrests were made, along with information on each of the cases.
