Deputy Chief Kevin B. Losen has served the citizens of Wayne County Since August of 1984 when he hired in as an officer assigned to the jail. After graduating from the Police Academy in 198t, he went on to the Sheriff’s Court Services Division where he provided courtroom security during civil and criminal cases. In 1989, he was transferred to the Sheriff’s Road Patrol where he became an accomplished Patrol Officer. During this time, he became a state certified Instructor in the Police Academy and trained at Northwestern University to become a certified Police Motorcycle Instructor. He helped develop the Police Motorcycle training curriculum that many Michigan agencies are using today. He also became the first of 3 state certified Field Training Officers to train new Road Patrol recruits for the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.
After being promoted to Sergeant in 1996, he resumed duties at the jail as a supervisor for a short time until being transferred to Sheriff’s Special Operations Division. He developed his administrative skills while concurrently overseeing several plain-clothes warrant and investigative units.
He was promoted to Lieutenant in 2000 and to Executive Lieutenant in 2003 while he remained in Sheriff’s Special Operations Division. His responsibilities continued to grow when he helped Sheriff Warren C. Evans form and develop the Sheriff’s “Last Call” Fugitive Apprehension Unit, a unit that has received local and national recognition for it’s accomplishments.
In April 2005, he was promoted to Commander of the Sheriff’s Patrol and continued to supervise aspects of Special Operations.
In November of that year, Sheriff Evans appointed him as Commander of Court Services and Court Field Operations.
In November 2006, he was promoted to his current position of Deputy Chief over Court and Jails Operations, Deed Fraud Investigative Unit and Sheriff’s Regional Dispatch Center.
In addition to his vast training and experience during his law enforcement career, Deputy Chief Losen also attended Washtenaw Community College and Eastern Michigan University where he studied Criminal Justice.
Deputy Chief Losen has received several departmental Meritorious Service Awards and Awards of Commendation. His highest honor was an award given to very few people, when he received the 2006 Sheriff’s Distinguished Leadership Award bestowed upon him by Sheriff Warren C. Evans. |
