The Wayne County Sheriff’s Youth & Senior Education Fund is a non-profit (501c3) organization made up of a group of civic minded citizens and business persons who raise funds for programs that support the Sheriff’s Office mission to educate and protect children and senior citizens.
This is a completely volunteer organization. There is no paid staff and all of the money raised, with the exception of minor administrative costs, goes directly to worthwhile causes.
- In the past two years, for example, the Fund has:
- Purchased and delivered thousands of dollars worth of Christmas gifts for disadvantaged families in Detroit and Highland Park, as well as for the families of soldiers fighting in Iraq
- Purchased thousands of safety whistles that have been distributed to children and senior citizens.
- Made several donations to programs that assist women and their children who have fled abusive homes
- Purchase of two ORVs to assist the Sheriff’s Office efforts to provide free practical safety training to children under 16 who ride ORVs or ATVs.
- Printed and distributed thousands of File of Life kits for Senior Citizens to keep important medical information handy.
- Purchased 20 sets of new golf clubs that have been provided to inner city students as part of a new program to introduce them to the game of golf and receive mentoring from adult role models.
- Much, much more.
For information on getting involved with the Youth & Senior Fund, or to donate, please contact Secretary Treasurer James Perna at 1-800-639-5910.
