Juvenile Programs

Wayne County now has the most extensive unit in Michigan dedicated to the recovery of missing, exploited, abused and neglected children. Partially grant funded, this seven-member unit brings together officers from the Sheriff’s Office and the Detroit Police Department.
The creation of this task force represents a renewed commitment on the part of these two agencies to make the safety of our children our highest priority.
To report a missing child, first contact your city’s local police department, then contact the Missing & Exploited Children’s Task Force at (313) 297-5230.
Child Rescue Unit
Officers of the Child Rescue Unit conduct the very difficult task of enforcing court orders to remove a child from his or her primary caregiver (parent, relative, foster parent) for reasons of neglect or abuse. The officers work hand in hand with Child Protective Services staff to make the experience as easy as possible for the child or children involved.
To report cases of suspected child abuse or neglect, please contact the Michigan Department of Human Services at1-800-716-2234
