Screening & District Courts Division
Diversion Section
The Diversion Unit was reestablished by Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy in 2004. Diversion is available for first-time offenders charged with certain non-assaultive offenses.
The goals of the program are:
- Ensure prompt disposition of low-level felony cases with minimal use of public resources.
- Encourage payment of restitution to crime victims.
- Distinguish between offenders who merit criminal sanctions and those who deserve a second chance.
