Grosse Pointe Man Charged with Assault and Fleeing the Police
On August 5, 2022, at approximately 9:09 p.m., Van Buren Township police officers were dispatched to a residence in the 48400 block of Denton Road in Van Buren Township for a reported kidnapping in progress. Upon their arrival, officers observed the defendant assaulting the victim. When officers attempted to intervene, it is alleged that the defendant fled from the scene.
As officers attempted a traffic stop, it is further alleged that the defendant fled eastbound on I-94 before crashing the vehicle into a metal pole at the intersection of Trumbull Street and Eastbound I-94 Service Drive. Defendant Travis was apprehended at the scene.
Carl Emerson Travis has been charged with one count of Unlawful Imprisonment, one count of Second-Degree Fleeing and Eluding, two counts of Police Officer - Assaulting/Restricting/Obstructing, one count of Domestic Violence, and one count of Reckless Driving. *
He was arraigned on August 8, 2022, in 34th District Court and given a $500,000/10% bond with a GPS tether. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for August 17, 2022, at 8:30 a.m., before Judge Tina Green. Please request a photograph of the defendant from the Van Buren Township Police Department.
