Detroit Man Charged in Fatal Shooting of Detroit Man
Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Nino Denzel-Wesley Red, 30, of Detroit, in connection with the fatal shooting of Javonte Gardner, 23, also of Detroit.
On July 18, 2023, at approximately 2:18 a.m., Detroit police officers were dispatched to the intersection of Tireman Avenue and St. Mary's Street for a reported shooting. Upon their arrival, officers located the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the abdomen. Medics arrived on the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.
It is alleged that a verbal altercation between the defendant and the victim escalated, and Defendant Red produced and fired a handgun multiple times, fatally wounding Mr. Gardner, before fleeing the scene. Investigation by the Detroit Police Department led to the arrest of the defendant later the same day.
Nino Denzel-Wesley Red has been charged with one count of First-Degree Murder, one count of Felon in Possession of a Firearm, and two counts of Felony Firearm. *
He was arraigned and remanded to jail on July 21, 2023, in 36thDistrict Court. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for August 3, 2023, at 8:30 a.m., and the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for August 10, 2023, at 12:00 p.m., before Judge Kenneth King.
