Third Judicial Circuit Court of Michigan

The Third Judicial Circuit Court is the largest county circuit court in Michigan,with 66 judges and three operating divisions. The Third Circuit Court has jurisdiction over civil, criminal and family matters arising in the County of Wayne. The National Center for State Courts once cited the Wayne County Circuit as one of only six model courts in the United States.

In 1997, legislation was passed to dissolve Detroit Recorders Court and consolidate its operation under the Third Circuit Court. The overall mission of the newly formed Third Circuit Court is to implement the legislated reorganization creating Civil, Criminal and Family Divisions; and, to centralize and consolidate judicial assignments, case dockets, funding, human resources, technology, and other administrative functions. The vision of the Court is to maintain and improve quality services to the public, utilizing human resources and technology in a manner that enhances and promotes access, fairness and accountability.
