The Grosse Ile Bridge rehabilitation project continues on schedule.  
Re-opening scheduled for December 15, 2007.

Wayne County is actively monitoring and inspecting the Bridge rehabilitation project.  We are also continuously meeting with local officials to help minimize any additional inconvenience to Grosse Ile residents, commuters and businesses.  To help assure that the project adheres to the December 15, 2007 completion date, the County insisted that a penalty provision was included in the Contractor’s agreement.  This provision requires the Contractor to pay a substantial financial penalty for each day the project exceeds the completion deadline.   The County appreciates the tremendous patience exhibited by Grosse Ile’s residents, business owners and visitors as we work hard to make sure the Bridge rehabilitation is completed correctly and on-time.  This substantial investment in the Bridge will allow for its productive and safe use for many years come.

PROJECT FUNDING

The total Bridge rehabilitation cost is $5.9 million. Of the total cost, $3.2 million is from MDOT's Local Bridge Fund, $1.7 million from the Federal Surface Transportation Program and nearly $1.1 million from Wayne County's Act 51 allocation. No Grosse Ile Township tax money or other local municipal tax money is being used for this project. Walter Toebe Construction, Inc. serves as the general contractor for the project. They were awarded the contract by the Michigan Department of Transportation via a competitive bid process.

PROJECT TIME-LINE

May 7th 2007 -  Bridge closed – Rehabilitation work begins.
December 15, 2007 – Bridge scheduled to be re-opened.
