SATURDAY IN THE PARK
May 5-September 29 in Hines Park
9:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. on Saturdays
Six miles of Hines Drive will be closed to traffic every Saturday for the public of all ages to run, walk, skate or cycle safely. Hines Drive will be closed from Ann Arbor Trail (near Nankin Mills Park) to Outer Drive (near Helms Haven Park). Parking is available at Nankin Mills Park in Westland.
FISHING DERBY
Saturday, May 19
8:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. at Hines Park - Waterford Bend Area, Northville
All kids ages 12 and younger are welcome to have some fishing fun and win prizes! The Rouge River will be stocked with rainbow trout and a casting contest will take place. All anglers need to bring their own equipment and bait. Registration starts on-site at 7:30 a.m. This event is co-sponsored by the Vietnam Veterans of America-Plymouth Chapter 528 and Northville Parks and Recreation.
NURSERY SCHOOL OLYMPICS
Wednesday, June 6
10:30 a.m. at Elizabeth Park, Trenton
Wayne County Parks is hosting this event for tomorrow's champions. Events include Marshmallow Shot Put, Big Wheel Grand Prix (children must bring their own big wheel or bike), Paper Plate Discus, Diaper Derby, Toddler Trot and much more! Children ages 5 and younger and their parents are welcome to attend this free event! Co-sponsored by Trenton Parks and Recreation.
POLKA FEST
Saturday, June 9
Noon – 9:00 pm at Hines Park – Warrendale Picnic Area, Dearborn Heights
Polka music enthusiasts will love dancing to the music. Ethnic dancers in authentic Polish costumes will also perform. Food concessions and a beer tent will be available.
NATURE FEST
Saturday, June 23
1:00 pm – 4:00 pm at Crosswinds Marsh, Sumpter Township
This nature event will feature live entertainment, nature crafts and games face painting and free canoeing. See bald eagles on a nature hike led by our naturalists. Meet live creatures at the animal tent and live animal show. Contests for the kids include a fishing contest, a scavenger hunt, a nature photo contest and a nature drawing/painting contest. Please bring your best nature photo, painting or drawing to be judged. Contest registration begins at 1:00 pm and prizes will be awarded to the winners of each contest at 4:00 pm. Fishing poles available to use.
SENIOR FUN FEST
Saturday, June 23
11:00 am – 2:00 pm at Hines Park – Nankin Mills Picnic Area, Westland
Join Wayne County Executive Robert A. Ficano for an afternoon of food, bingo, entertainment, demonstrations and wheel of fortune. Free tickets are available at our Nutrition Center or by calling Senior Services at (734) 727-7373.
MUD DAY
Tuesday, July 10
10:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. at Hines Park - Nankin Mills Area, Westland
Join us for the 25th anniversary of MUD DAY! We will kick off the event with a live show from Radio Disney AM 910 from 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. and will be blasting into the mud at 11:45 a.m. The Westland Fire Department will be on hand to hose off all the muddy kids. Co-sponsored by ITC Holdings and Community Alliance Credit Union. For ages 12 and younger.
WAYNE COUNTY COUNTRY FEST
Saturday, July 28
1:00 p.m. - Dark at Elizabeth Park, Trenton
Gallop down to Elizabeth Park for the first annual Country Fest on the River! This is destined to be the premier country event of the summer with five regional country acts on stage throughout the day. Call the Parks office for a complete schedule.

MOVIE IN THE PARK
Saturday, August 25 at Heritage Park, Taylor
Bring your blankets and chairs to join Wayne County Parks and Taylor Parks and Recreation as we partner to show Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2. The movie starts at dusk.
CRUISIN' HINES
Sunday, August 26
9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. from Ann Arbor Trail to Outer Drive
Do you remember cruising Hines Drive back in the '70's? Well then you are going to love this cruise! Hines Park will be closed to "normal" traffic from Ann Arbor Trail to Outer Drive. Traffic on this section will be limited to classic cars and hot rods.
NATIVE AMERICAN HERITAGE DAY
Saturday, September 8
11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. at Nankin Mills Interpretive Center
The North American Indian Association hosts a special Social Gathering that includes a drumming circle, dancers in beautiful regalia, artisians displaying , demonstrating and selling crafts and Native American food available for purchase. The whole family will enjoy this celebration of Michigan's first people. Bring a lawn chair and we recommend an umbrellla for shade.
SOMEWHERE IN TIME
Sunday, September 16
11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. at Elizabeth Park in Trenton
This fun filled family event is designed to recreate Elizabeth Park in the late 1920's. Antique auto displays, riverboat ridess, musical entertainment and refreshments are all waiting for you. The children's games and entertainment area is a sure hit for all ages. Sponsored in cooperation with Trenton Parks and Recreation.
HALLOWEEN FOREST FUN HIKE

Hikes beginning at 6:00 pm, 6:30 pm, 7:00pm, 7:30 pm, Register for one time, All ages welcome.
$6.00 per child, $4.00 per adult for Wayne County residents
Out of county residents: $7.00 per child, $5 per adult
A guided night hike will introduce you to some of our “not-so-scary” funny forest-dwellers. Hikes begin on the grounds of Nankin Mills and last about an hour, so dress for the weather. After your hike, you will meet amazing live creatures from around the world during an indoor presentation.
HOWL-O-WEEN DOG PARK PARTY

Due to popular demand, Wayne County Parks is now offering bike riders a chance to bike through the lights before it opens to the public. Call the park office for registration fees and information in September. Co-sponsored by www.beatthetrain.com.

WAYNE COUNTY LIGHTFEST

Visit the Midwest’s longest drive-through holiday light display for four miles of colorful lights with a fee of $5/car. Enter off Merriman Road, between Ann Arbor Trail and Warren Avenue in Westland. For more information on this holiday spectacular, call the Parks office.
FAMILY HOLIDAY FEST & MILL LIGHTING
Saturday, December 8
4:00 – 6:00 pm at the Nankin Mills Interpretive Center, Westland
$6 per child, $4 per adult for crafts and games (4:00-5:15 pm). No charge for Santa visit and mill lighting (5:15 – 6:00 pm). Co-sponsored by Friends of Wayne County Parks
An old-fashioned celebration featuring seasonal games and crafts you can make and take home to decorate your tree. The second part of the program is free, and includes an outdoor community Mill Lighting and Sing-a-long with an indoor visit from St. Nick. Refreshments provided. This is the 25th year the Friends have held this event!
