Wayne County CEO Warren C. Evans Declares State of Emergency Following Harsh Storms
Evans joined by Dingell, Hudak to discuss resources, next steps
CANTON, MI - Today, Wayne County Executive Warren C. Evans held a press conference to discuss the State of Emergency declaration due to recent excessive rainfall and countywide flooding caused by this week's rainstorms.
The County Executive, joined by Congresswoman Debbie Dingell and Canton Township Supervisor Anne Marie Graham-Hudak, addressed damage across Wayne County, particularly in hard-hit areas like the downriver communities and Canton. The State of Emergency will allow for the County to receive additional support in assisting those impacted by the rain.
"Our communities have seen an unprecedented amount of rainfall in a short amount of time. Trees are down, powerlines are down, and many have no electricity," said Wayne County Executive Warren C. Evans. "This State of Emergency will assist us in receiving additional support and resources from the State of Michigan. I am invested in the health and safety of our residents, and we are working to ensure they have what is needed to recover."
Roadways continue to be monitored for debris, flooding and receding waters. To report a road issue, residents can contact the 24-hour customer service center at 888.ROAD.CREW (1-888-762-3273).
Additionally, residents in Brownstown, Flat Rock and western Wayne also received emergency clean-up kits, which contain bleach, towels, mops, disinfectant solution and more. More than 400 kits have been distributed.
