Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Michael Craig Lackey, 59, of Detroit, in connection with the fatal shooting of Michele Elder, 61, also of Detroit. The defendant and Ms. Elder were neighbors living in the 8580 block of Robson in Detroit.

On November 17, 2022, at approximately 6:47 a.m., Detroit police officers were dispatched to a residence in the 8580 block of Robson Street in Detroit for a reported shooting. Upon their arrival, officers located the victim lying face down in the street, in front of the residence, suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. Medics arrived on scene and pronounced the victim deceased.

It is alleged that Defendant Lackey produced and fired a handgun, fatally wounding the victim, before barricading himself inside his home. After a brief standoff, the defendant eventually surrendered and was taken into custody.

Michael Craig Lackey has been charged with one count of Premeditated First-Degree Murder, one count of Witness - Retaliating Against, and two counts of Felony Firearm. *

He was arraigned and remanded to jail on November 20, 2022, in 36th District Court. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for November 28, 2022, at 8:30 a.m., and the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for December 5, 2022, 1:45 p.m., before Judge Kenneth King.
