Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged a 16-year-old juvenile male, of Detroit, in connection with carrying a concealed weapon and fleeing from Detroit police officers.

On April 4, 2024, at approximately 7:20 p.m., Detroit police officers were in the area of Fenkell Avenue and Brammel Street, when they observed the juvenile carrying a concealed weapon. When officers confronted the juvenile, it is alleged that he fled from the police on foot. During the foot chase, officers observed the juvenile respondent with his hand on the weapon and fired at the juvenile respondent, striking him in the leg. Medics arrived on the scene and transported the juvenile to a local hospital where he was treated and released.

The juvenile respondent has been charged with Receiving and Concealing a Firearm and Carrying a Concealed Weapon.*

His Preliminary Hearing was held this afternoon before Referee Leslie Graves and the juvenile received a $3,000/10% bond. His next court date is a Pretrial scheduled for May 29, 2024, at 9:00 a.m., before Referee Brian Johnson in the Lincoln Hall of Justice.

*The charges are allegations and defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
