Detroit Man Charged in Parkside Car Crash that Seriously Injured Two Bicyclists

Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy has charged Lamar Pierre Odom, 30 (DOB:12/24/85), of Detroit, in connection with a car crash that seriously injured a man and a woman who were members of a Belle Isle cycling group. On June 29, 2016 at approximately 11:00 a.m., it is alleged that the defendant was driving his car at the intersection of Parkside and West McNichols at a high rate of speed when he passed a car on the right side of the road, in violation of the law. When he attempted to stop his car to avoid hitting another car, he slid approximately 55 feet and struck the two victims while they were riding their bicycles. Both victims were seriously injured and were transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Odom has been arraigned on two counts of Driving While License Suspended Causing Serious Injury and two counts of Moving Violation Causing Serious Injury and received a $250,000/10% bond. His probable cause conference will be held on August 2, 2016 at 8:30 a.m. and his preliminary examination is scheduled for August 8, 2016 at 9:00 a.m., both hearings are before Judge Shannon Holmes in 36th District Court.

Tanner Coolsaet and Michael Roth - Grosse Ile Animal Torture defendants. The probable cause conference was held today and the preliminary examination is scheduled for August 15, 2016 at 1:00 pm. The bonds for both defendants are continued, but were amended with a provision of no contact or possession of any animals, except for the family pets. In addition, Defendant Roth was given permission to travel to Colorado to visit an aunt from August 2, 2016 through August 8, 2016.

Grosse Ile Juvenile Respondent Charged - A juvenile male who was 16 at the time the crime was committed and when the case was charged, will face one count of Killing/Torturing an Animal and one count of Animal Cruelty. The juvenile was on the Grosse Ile high Lacrosse team. He was with Defendants Coolsaet and Roth on April 30, 2016 when he is alleged to have stabbed the guinea pig with a knife. His pre-trial conference will be held on August 11, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. before Referee Viola King at the Lincoln Hall of Justice. In juvenile court, the penalty for the offense is determined by the judge upon conviction.

Tywaun Tramel Coakley - Defendant charged with Felony Murder in homicide of Roberto Ybarra, 81, of Detroit. Today Coakley had his probable cause hearing before Judge Kenneth King and the preliminary examination date was changed to August 3, 2016 at 10:00 a.m.

Detroit Man Charged in Kidnapping and Sexual Assault on Foley Street

Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Jovon Boykins, Sr., 35 (DOB: 8/30/80), of Detroit, with two counts of Criminal Sexual Conduct First Degree and Kidnapping. On July 10, 2016 at approximately 10:50 a.m., an 18-year-old woman had a fight with her boyfriend and left his car, and began walking in the area of Hubbell and Plymouth streets. Shortly, thereafter, the defendant offered the complainant a ride home and she got into his car. She asked the defendant to drop her off on Greenfield and Plymouth, but he took her to a vacant house in the 10600 block of Foley in Detroit. It is alleged that the defendant held the complainant against her will and sexually assaulted her. Investigation by the Detroit Police Department led to the arrest of the defendant on Wednesday, July 27, 2016.

Boykins was arraigned this afternoon at 2:30 p.m. in 36th District Court and received a $250,000 cash/surety bond. The probable cause hearing is on August 4, 2016 at 8:30 a.m. and the preliminary examination is on August 10, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. Both hearings are before Judge Deborah Langston in 36th District Court.

Emmanuel Hatchett - Defendant charged in connection with Felony Murder in beating to death his girlfriend's eight-month-old daughter. Today the trial was adjourned from August 8, 2016 to October 31, 2016 because the medical examiner was not available to testify the week of August 8th. Over the People's objection, Judge Lillard lowered the defendant's bond to $100,000/10% with a tether.
