Wayne County Lightfest


The Wayne County Lightfest is magical four-mile stretch of Hines Park, displaying nearly 50 animated themed displays and more than 100,000 lights now until December 31, 2020 (closed December 25). Check out how you and your family can experience the Wayne County Lightfest!

Due to overwhelming response to the Lightfest this year, wait times may be longer than normal. Families all over the Metro Detroit Area are looking for safe activities to participate in this holiday season and our staff is working diligently to make the Lightfest experience as positive as possible.

The new extended hours for the Lightfest are Wednesday - Sunday from 6:00 PM - 10:00 PM. The Lightfest is closed on Monday and Tuesdsay evenings.

The fees for the Lightfest are $5 cash per car. There are additional fees for commercial vehicles (see below).

The entrance to the Lightfest is 7651 N. Merriman Road, which is on Merriman between Ann Arbor Trail and Warren Avenue in Westland, 2 1/2 miles south of I-96.

During the Lightfest, Hines Drive closes to traffic for set-up and operations from 5:00 PM - 11:30 PM from Ann Arbor Trail to Outer Drive.

Drive Thru the Lights

Stay warm in your car and take a drive through the beautiful lighted displays. Make it an annual family tradition to come every year and see the new displays that have been added.

The fees for the Lightfest are below. Please note that masks must be worn while paying at the booth.

Cars $5.00 cash
Commercial Van/RV/Limousine $20 cash
Mini-Bus (20 passenger) $25 cash
Bus (40+ passengers) $50 cash

Toy Night Tuesdays - Cancelled for 2020
On Toy Night Tuesdays, visitors can donate a new unwrapped toy in lieu of paying the entrance fee.

Opening Celebration - Cancelled for 2020

A winter Celebration for everyone. Come and visit the Wayne County Lightfest Opening Ceremonies with musical entertainment, a fireworks show, and visit from Santa. The ceremony concludes with turning on the switch to kick off the traditional first drive of the Lightfest.

8K Fun Run/Walk Thru the Lights - Cancelled for 2020

Are you ready to get a bit of fresh air? Challenge your friends to a fun run or walk through the lights. We close down Hines Drive and open it up for you. Watch for early registration perks like hats and fun finisher medals as these are normally limited.

START AREA: Merriman Hollow Park, Westland located on Hines Drive off Merriman Road between Ann Arbor Trail and Warren Avenue.
FINISH LINE: Warrendale Park, Dearborn Heights located on Warren Avenue, east of Telegraph. Please note that there is minimal parking at Warrendale Park.

16K Bike Thru the Lights - Cancelled for 2020

Participate in your own light parade! Decorate your bike and ride through the lights with us. There's even a PRIZE for the most decorated bike!
  • All bike riders must be able to bike to the Warrendale picnic area and back (16K).
  • All bikes must have a light, due to the two-way traffic
  • All participants must wear a helmet
Start/Finish Location: Hines Park-Merriman Hollow Area (entrance to Lightfest) at Merriman Road and Hines Drive, between Ann Arbor Trail and Warren Avenue in Westland, 2 1/2 miles south of I-96. Hines Drive will be closed to non-race traffic.

Santa's Workshop - Cancelled for 2020

Straight from the North Pole, Santa is ready to listen to wishes and take pictures. Too shy to talk to Santa in person? You can drop off a letter in the giant mailbox for Santa to read when he gets back home. Refreshments are also available for purchase.
