Nankin Mills

The Nankin Mills Interpretive Center is an historic grist mill which has three floors of public displays highlighting; Native American history, water-powered settlements and Underground Railroad history along the Rouge River, as well as Henry Ford's use of the mill for one of his Village Industry manufacturing sites.

There is no admission fee for an individual to visit the Interpretive Center. Guided tours are available to groups for a fee. To schedule a tour, register for a program or for more information, please call (734) 261-1990.

The Nankin Mills Interpretive Center is located at 33175 Ann Arbor Trail in Westland. The building is on Ann Arbor Trail, just east of Farmington Road and there is also a parking lot on Hines Drive.

Open Monday - Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

PROGRAMS & RESOURCES

Family Interpretive Programs
Nankin Mills Interpretive Center offers a variety of programs designed for the entire family to enjoy together. Upcoming programs include:

Winter Walk and Fireside Talk - Saturday, December 1 from 10:00 AM - Noon.
Enjoy a hike to look for animal signs and then return to our fire pit for marshmallows, hot chocolate and stories. This program is recommended for ages 6 - Adult. The fee for Wayne County residents is $6 per child and $2 per adult. To register, please call (734) 261-1990.

Boy and Cub Scout Programs
Nankin Mills Interpretive Center offers programs for Boy and Cub Scouts featuring educational and hands-on activities designed to meet all requirements needed for scouts to earn their badges.

Girl Scout Programs
Nankin Mills Interpretive Center offers programs for Girls Scouts featuring educational and hands-on activities designed to meet all requirements needed for scouts to earn their badges.

Home School and Youth Group Program Topics
Nankin Mills Interpretive Center is pleased to offer a wide variety of topics for home school or other youth groups to attend with their adult caregivers. Program dates are not prescheduled. Call to schedule a program topic for your group. There is a minimum fee of $75 to schedule a program.

School and Youth Group Field Trip and Outreach Program Topics
Nankin Mills Interpretive Center offers many educational programs specially designed to complement school curriculums and feature hands-on activities, hikes, games or crafts to enhance the learning experience. Programs are offered as Field Trips to the Center and some of the topics can be presented at your site as an Outreach Program. These programs are also available during the summer for other youth groups. Call to schedule a program for your students. There is a minimum $75 fee to schedule a program.

Indoor Nature and History Presentations at Nankin Mills
Nankin Mills Interpretive Center offers a series of indoor presentations throughout the year featuring the local nature and history of Wayne County Parks and southeastern Michigan. Programs are designed for ages 12 and older. Please pre-register at least 3 days prior to the prescheduled program dates.

Adult Nature and History Presentation Topics for adult groups at Nankin Mills or your site Nankin Mills Interpretive Center offers a variety of topics for indoor program presentations featuring the local nature and history in our area. Programs are designed for adult groups. Call (734) 261-1990 to schedule a program for your group. There is a $75 minimum fee to schedule a presentation.

Adult Outdoor Interpretive Hikes in Wayne County Parks Wayne County Parks is home to many unique outdoor sites. Nankin Mills Interpretive Center Naturalists lead hikes for the public to enjoy and learn about Holliday Nature Preserve and Bennett Arboretum throughout the year. Hikes are designed for ages 12 and older. Please pre-register at least 3 days prior to the prescheduled program dates by calling (734) 261-1990.
