COVID-19 case and death data are from the Michigan Disease Surveillance System (MDSS), the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services' communicable disease reporting system. Confirmed cases and confirmed deaths are reported on this dashboard at this time.
Confirmed Case: Detection of SARS-CoV-2 RNA in a respiratory swab or clinical specimen using a diagnostic molecular amplification detection test performed by a CLIA-certified provider, OR Detection of SARS-CoV-2 by genomic sequencing
Confirmed Death: A confirmed death meets at least ONE of the following criteria:
- Have been identified as a confirmed case classified as deceased as a result of a case investigation in the Michigan Disease Surveillance System (MDSS); OR
- Have been identified as a confirmed case in MDSS and have a death certificate with COVID-19 listed as a cause of death; OR
- Have been identified as a confirmed case in MDSS and die within 30 days of onset of COVID-19 infection and have a death certificate which classifies their manner of death as "natural"

The MI Lighthouse is a private dashboard created by the University of Michigan in partnership with Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) to provide local level vaccination data by demographics and the neighborhood-level to assist with outbreak investigation and resource allocation decisions.
