Juvenile Court Services

The Wayne County Clerk's Office serves the public and will do so to the best of it's ability in a professional, courteous and efficient manner. Juvenile cases are filed and processed in the Wayne County Clerk's Office Court Services Unit within the jurisdiction of the Circuit Court and the County of Wayne. These cases involve neglect, abuse and delinquency matters involving juveniles.

All case related documents filed with the court as required by the court rules must be filed with Clerk of the Court.

JUVENILE DIVISION CASE PROCESSING

As Clerk of the Court, the County Clerk's office has the responsibility of accepting and entering all Juvenile division cases such as neglect and delinquency into the official court record. There are approximately 15,000 cases that are initiated each year. The Clerk's office is also responsible for the receipt, filing, maintenance and retrieval of the physical court case file for court proceedings, as well as duplication and certification of case file documents.

The Clerk's office is also responsible for assignment of Court hearings and pretrial dates.

The Clerk's office acts as the liaison for the County Clerk in the Juvenile Division. The Court Services division responds to queries from defendants, general public, law enforcement agents, social workers, probation officers and other interested parties and disseminates information regarding the juvenile division cases filed in the Third Judicial Circuit Court.

JUVENILE/FAMILY DIVISION

The Juvenile/ Family Division files judge/jury demands, motions, requests for rehearing, affidavits of paternity, petitions for review of referee recommendation and petitions for (minor) guardianship, as well as other family matters.

APPEALS

The Clerk's Office is responsible for processing the Claim of Appeal.

OTHER DUTIES OF THE COURT SERVICES-JUVENILE DIVISION

Process writs of habeas corpus, publications to legal newspapers, summons, subpoenas, and notices for court hearings.

Oversee all juvenile cases involving traffic and ordinance violations for the City of Detroit as well as cities and townships within Wayne County.
