Assessment & Equalization

Our Mission

The mission of the Assessment and Equalization Division is to professionally survey, record, compile and report assessment and tax related data pertaining to each city and township within Wayne County for the purpose of advising the Wayne County Commission in regard to the equalization of assessments and the apportionment of property taxes as required by the General Property Tax Law and other related statutes.

Additionally, this Division's mission is to provide quality assistance to Wayne County communities in regard to the valuation, assessment and audit of property, as well as assistance in assessment and tax roll preparation, tax billing and other related services.One of the primary duties of the Assessment and Equalization Division is to compile and report Assessment and other tax related data for each City and Township within Wayne County for the purpose of advising the Wayne County Commission in regard to the Equalization of Assessments and the Apportionment of Property Taxes as required by the General Property Tax Law, the Wayne County Charter, and related statutes.You may access copies of historical Apportionment and Equalization reports by clicking on the appropriate link(s) on the right side of this page.


The Assessment and Equalization Division annually compiles assessment data for all Wayne County municipalities at the conclusion of the March Board of Review. Historical GIS parcel layer shape files and historical tax maps are also available for download at no cost. Part of our mission is to provide leadership and guidance to local Wayne County Assessors and their staff.In Michigan, preparation of Assessment and Tax Rolls is handled by the local communities (i.e. by the Cities & Townships).
