SPECIAL NOTE: Proposed amendments to the articles of incorporation for the Wayne County Zoological Authority are available for public review and comment before discussion before a vote by the Wayne County Commission on June 7. To review the proposed amendments, click here.


The Wayne County Zoological Authority administers Wayne County's portion of the tri-county zoo millage, initially approved by voters in 2008 and renewed in 2016. The millage supports operations at the Detroit Zoo, located in Royal Oak, Michigan.

The millage is levied at 0.1-mill annually and will expire in 2027. The annual levy is $10 for those living in homes valued at $150,000.
