Bad Check Restitution Program
How does the program work?
Bad check writers are notified by mail prior to the initiation of a formal criminal investigation. The program requires payment of restitution in addition to a small handling fee. Participants are also required to complete a brief refresher class intended to prevent recurrence of future bad checks.
Is the program mandatory?
No, participation in the program is voluntary, but people who decline to participate face the possibility of criminal prosecution.
