Juvenile Detention Center Services

24 Hour Care and Custody

Twenty-four-hour care and custody for our youth housed at the Wayne County Juvenile Detention Facility involve constant supervision and support to ensure their safety, well-being, and adherence to facility rules. This comprehensive care aims to create a safe, stable environment that supports the youth's physical, emotional, and educational needs while in custody.

Social Services

Wayne County Juvenile Detention Facility medical staff ensures every youth have a social service specialist assigned to assist them. Social Service Specialist meet with the youth within the first week of the youth's arrival and frequently thereafter. The youth's social worker verifies parent and guardian information, attorney information and any legal status of the youth. The social service specialist answers questions, connects with youth family/guardian, communicate with the courts, school and community on behalf of the youth. Social service specialist provides in pod group sessions in collaboration with the Juvenile Specialist assigned to the pod.

Medical Services

Wayne County Juvenile Detention Facility medical staff ensures the youth medical needs are taken care of, and the youth receive their daily prescribe medication(s). There is a sick call process in place where youth can turn in a sick call form if they are not feeling well or need to see a nurse.

Clinical Mental Health Care

Wayne County Juvenile Detention Facility clinical mental health services provide the following services for our youth:

  • Assessments: Evaluating mental health conditions and behavioral issues.
  • Individual Therapy: One-on-one counseling for trauma, anxiety, and more.
  • Group Therapy: Peer support sessions on topics like anger management.
  • Crisis Intervention: Immediate support for acute distress or suicide risk.
  • Psychiatric Services: Medication management and treatment for severe conditions.
  • Educational Support: Teaching coping strategies and life skills.

School

Wayne County Juvenile Detention Facility educational services focus on providing detained youth with academic skills. These services aim to help youth continue their education, develop new skills, and prepare for reintegration into society.
