Commissioner Tim Killeen, Unify Detroit Coalition present 'A Family Affair Free Health Fair and More'
Wayne County Commissioner Tim Killeen and the Unify Detroit Coalition will cohost "A Family Affair Free Health Fair and More" from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 14, at St. Claire of Montefalco Catholic Church, 1401 Whittier, Grosse Pointe Park. The church is located near the intersection of Outer Drive and Mack.
The event will include medical screenings; breast and cervical cancer consultations; screenings for diseases like HIV and sickle cell anemia; dental cleanings for children; foot evaluations by a podiatrist; health care and mental health care resources; and Medicaid enrollment. It also will feature summer recreation opportunities, including camp enrollment, for children; cooking demonstrations; fruit and vegetable canning information; foreclosure prevention assistance; raffles and giveaways; and the opportunity to meet local elected officials.
"It is critical we reach out to the community with these services," Commissioner Killeen, D-Detroit, said. "Many people simply don't have access, and this is a wonderful opportunity for people to get assistance and improve on their quality of life. I am grateful to co-host this annual event."
Commissioner Killeen chairs the Commission's Committee on Health and Human Services. He also is vice-chair of the Detroit Wayne Mental Health Authority and first vicechair of Authority Health (formerly the Detroit Wayne County Health Authority).
Authority Health and the Detroit Wayne Mental Health Authority are partnering to present "A Family Affair," as are Aetna, the Nurse-Family Partnership, Michigan Complete Health and Fidelis SecureCare.
