Nineteen Wayne County women were appointed or re-appointed Tuesday to the Wayne County Women's Commission for its 2025-27 session, which begins in May.

Members were nominated and appointed by the 15 Wayne County Commissioners, with each commissioner appointing one member from their district. In addition, Wayne County Commissioner Chair Alisha Bell nominated four at-large members.

"With these appointments, the Wayne County Women's Commission will continue to have a big impact in advocating for improvements in health care, child care, maternal care and employment opportunities for women throughout Wayne County," Wayne County Commission Chair Alisha Bell (D-Detroit) said.

New members for 2025-27 include:

District 2 - Elizabeth Kmetz-Armitage, appointed by Commissioner Jonathan C. Kinloch (D-Detroit).

District 6 - Regina Banks-Hall, appointed by Commissioner Monique Baker McCormick (D-Detroit).

District 8 - Jen McConnell, appointed by Commissioner David M. Knezek (DDearborn Heights).

District 11 - Brittany Beaudry, appointed by Commissioner Allen R. Wilson (D-Romulus).

District 15 - Jaime Churches, appointed by Commissioner Joseph Palamara (DGrosse Ile Township).

Returning members include:

At large - Soummer Crawford, Cynthia Douglas, LaTanya Gater and Sarah Roberts.

District 1 - Alease Moore, appointed by Commissioner Tim Killeen (DDetroit).

District 3 - Kathryn Joyner appointed by Commissioner Martha G. Scott (DHighland Park).

Dsitrict 4 - Melissa Daub, appointed by Commissioners Cara Clemente (DLincoln Park). Commissioner Daub also serves as Wayne County Commission liaison to the women's commission.

District 5 - Yvonne Cash, appointed by Commissioner Irma Clark-Coleman (D-Detroit).

District 7 - Jenise E. Collins, appointed by Commission Chair Alisha Bell (DDetroit).

District 9 - Melissa A. Schultz, appointed by Commissioner Terry Marecki (RLivonia).

District 10 - Leigh Moroz, appointed by Commissioner Melissa Daub (DCanton Township).

District 12 - Melandie Hines, appointed by Commissioner Glenn S. Anderson, (D-Westland).

District 13 - Maali Lugman, appointed by Commissioner Sam Baydoun (DDearborn).

District 14 - Sherry Berecz, appointed by Commissioner Alex Garza (DTaylor).

Earlier this month, the women's commission held its third annual Women's Resource Fair at the Schoolcraft College campus in Livonia.

The Wayne County Women's Commission was formed in 2021 by Wayne County Commission Chair Alisha Bell, under a recommendation from resident Sarah Roberts, to look at issues including employment, earning power, health care and childcare and make recommendations designed to better the lives of women living in Wayne County.

All 19 members are volunteers who will serve two-year terms without pay. Commission meetings are open to the public under provisions of the state's Open Meetings Act.
