Caregiver Charged in Robbery and Attack of 81-Year-Old Woman
Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Essence Lefaye Cross, 33, of Detroit, in connection with the robbery and assault of an 81-year-old woman, of Grosse Pointe Park.
On May 5, 2023, at approximately 3:10 a.m., at a residence in the 1040 block of Berkshire Street in Grosse Pointe Park, it is alleged that Defendant Cross forced entry into the victim's home. It is further alleged that the defendant struck the victim in the head with a handgun, before robbing her and fleeing the scene. Investigation by the Grosse Pointe Park Police Department led to the arrest of the defendant later the same day.
Essence Lefaye Cross has been charged with Assault with Intent to Murder, Armed Robbery, Home Invasion 1st Degree, Unlawful Driving Away of an Automobile and four counts of Felony Firearm. *
She was arraigned this afternoon in the Grosse Pointe Park Municipal Court and received a $2 million bond. Her Probable Cause Conference is on May 17, 2023, at 9:00 a.m. Please request a photograph of the defendant from the Grosse Pointe Police Department after the arraignment.
"It is heartbreaking to constantly see a senior citizen's trust be eroded completely by someone that they knew and let into their home on previous occasions," said Prosecutor Kym Worthy. "The crimes that we allege today against this defendant will show the ultimate of betrayals. We will seek justice for our senior victim in this case."
