On February 1, 2023, Prosecutor Kym Worthy charged James Adam Baird, 44, of Plymouth, in connection with the sexual assault of a then 10-year-old Westland girl who is now 13 years old. He was also charged with the sexual assault of a then 11-year-old Wayne girl who is now 15 years old. It was alleged that the assaults happened when he was working as a school vision specialist.

March 1, 2018 - Westland, MI - A Then 10-year-old Female; Now 13-years-old.

At approximately 12:00 p.m., at a school in the 35100 block of Bayview Street in Westland, it is alleged that Mr. Baird sexually assaulted the then 10-year-old victim. He was charged with one count of First-Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct - Person under 13. * As a result of information received in the case, further investigation was requested by the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office of the Westland Police Department. As a result of the police investigation, the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office moved the court to dismiss all charges without prejudice. Visiting Judge Randy Kalmbach granted the motion to dismiss the case against Mr. Baird on July 5, 2023.

February 11, 2020 - Westland, MI - A Then 11-year-old Female; Now 15-years-old.

At approximately 12:00 p.m., at a school in the 38500 block of Palmer Road in Westland, it is alleged that Mr. Baird sexually assaulted the then 11-year-old victim. He was charged with one count of First-Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct, and one count of Second-Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct. * As a result of information received in the case, further investigation was requested by the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office of the Westland Police Department. As a result of the police investigation, the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office moved the court to dismiss all charges without prejudice. Visiting Judge Randy Kalmbach granted the motion to dismiss the case against Mr. Baird on July 5, 2023.

Prosecutor Worthy said, "Additional investigation that we requested from the Westland Police Department was crucial to the decision in this case. We are certain that dismissing these charges was warranted. It is the right thing to do. We have no further comment, as there is pending civil litigation in connect with these matters."

On June 28, 2023, Mr. Baird's two Garden City sexual assault cases were dismissed by WCPO without prejudice by Visiting Judge Randy Kalmbach.

*The charges are allegations and defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
