Dearborn Heights Man Charged in Fatal Shooting of His Father
Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Devon Hackney, 19, (DOB: 08/21/2001), of Dearborn Heights, in connection with the fatal shooting of his father, Alex Hackney, of Romulus.
On April 21, 2021 at approximately, 2:02 p.m., Romulus police officers were dispatched to a residence in the 14100 block of Conover Place in Romulus for a reported shooting. Upon arrival, officers located the victim in the driveway of the residence with three gunshot wounds to the chest. Medics arrived on scene and transported the victim to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. It is alleged that there was a physical altercation between the defendant and his father before the fatal shooting.
Devon Hackney has been charged with one count of Open Murder and one count of Felony Firearm. * The defendant was arraigned on Sunday, April 25, 2021. He has a Probable Cause Conference on May 5, 2021 at 8:30 a.m. in 34th District Court. Today the defense filed a bond motion that was heard by Judge Brian Oakley. He ordered a $125,000/10% bond with a tether provision if posted. Please request a photograph of the defendant from the Romulus Police Department.
