Corey Deshawn Gaston, DOB: (02/27/1978), was charged in 2007, in connection with the sexual assault and kidnapping of a then 10-year-old girl that occurred on June 27, 2007. The child was abducted from her bedroom window and taken to an alley and assaulted by Gaston. While on bond to Judge Deborah Thomas, Gaston failed to appear for a pretrial hearing in February 2008 and absconded for over 11 years. In October 2019, he was apprehended by the U.S. Marshal Service in Guadalajara, Mexico and extradited to Michigan. Upon his return to Michigan he pleaded no contest to Criminal Sexual Conduct First Degree and Kidnapping on December 6, 2021 before Judge Kevin Cox.

Today Defendant Corey Gaston was sentenced to 25 to 50 years for Criminal Sexual Conduct - First Degree and 25 to 50 years for Kidnapping, to be served concurrently.

"The victim was 10-years-old when this unspeakable assault happened. She is now 26-years-old. She and her family have waited has waited a long time for this day to come. We would like to thank the Detroit Police Department and the U.S. Marshal Service for their efforts over the years to bring this violent criminal back to Michigan to serve many years in prison," said Prosecutor Worthy.
