Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Oscar DeAngelo Smith, 31, (DOB: 09/22/1989), and Temmika Burgess, 41, (DOB: 03/11/1980), both of Detroit, in connection with the fatal shooting of Michelle O'Neal, 55, also of Detroit. The defendants and Ms. O'Neal were acquainted with each other.

On July 12, 2020, at approximately 5:00 p.m., Detroit police officers were dispatched to the intersection of Hyde Street and Helen Street in Detroit. Upon arrival, officers located the lifeless body of the victim in a wooded area with a gunshot wound to the head.

It is alleged that the defendants fatally shot the victim and took her lifeless body to a wooded area before fleeing the scene. Investigation by the Detroit Police Department led to the arrest of the defendants on August 2, 2021.

Oscar DeAngelo Smith has been charged with one count of First-Degree Murder, one count of Felon in Possession, and two counts of Felony Firearm. Temmika Burgess has been charged with one count of First-Degree Murder, one count of Felony Firearm, one count of Tampering with Evidence, and one count of Third-Degree Arson. *

The defendants were arraigned yesterday in 36th District Court and ordered to have no contact with the complaining witness. Their Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for August 20, 2021 and their Preliminary Examination is scheduled for August 27, 2021 in 36th District Court before Judge Kenyetta Stanford Jones.
