Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Travis Deshawn Irving, 33, and Nicole Kay Christian, 34, both of Detroit, in connection with the fatal shooting of Daryll Straughter, 48, also of Detroit.

On April 15, 2023, at approximately 8:03 p.m., at a liquor store in the 570 block of Monroe Street, it is alleged that Defendant Irving and the victim had a verbal argument that escalated. The defendant produced and fired a handgun, fatally wounding Mr. Straughter. It's further alleged that he fled the scene aided by Ms. Christian. Medics arrived and transported the victim to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Investigation by the Detroit Police Department led to the arrest of the defendants later the same day.

Travis Deshawn Irving has been charged with one count of First-Degree Murder, one count of Felony in Possession of a Firearm, and two counts of Felony Firearm. *

Nicole Kay Christian has been charged with one count of Accessory After the Fact. *

They were arraigned this afternoon in 36th District Court Today. Defendant Irving was remanded to jail and has a Probable Cause Hearing on May 2, 2023, and a Preliminary Examination on May 9, 2023, before Judge Kenneth King. Defendant Christian received a $50,000 cash/surety bond and has a Probable Cause Hearing on April 27, 2023, and a Preliminary Examination on May 3, 2023, before Judge Kenneth King.
