In September 1997, Richard Davis*, then 27, of Detroit, was charged by the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office in connection with the assault of two Detroit police officers. Defendant Davis was not in custody when the case was charged in 1997. He is currently 54 years old.

On August 29, 1997, at approximately 10:15 p.m., Detroit police officers were on Irvington Street and Winchester Street when they conducted a traffic stop on the defendant's vehicle for improper plates. While the officers were investigating the defendant and his vehicle it is alleged that he had a weapon that was found in his car. It is further alleged that during the investigation he physically fought with the officers, biting them, before fleeing the scene on foot.

On May 13, 2025, Richard Davis was arrested for the 1997 offenses. Today he will be arraigned on charges of Disarming a Police Officer - Attempt, which carries a 5-year maximum penalty, two counts of Resisting Arrest - Causing Injury, which carries a maximum penalty of 2 years, and Carrying a Concealed Weapon, which carries a maximum penalty of 5 years.** The case was investigated by the Detroit Police Department and the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office Criminal Investigation Division.

He was arraigned this afternoon in 36th District Court, before Magistrate Laura Echartea and given a $100,000 personal bond with a GPS tether. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for May 23, 2025, and the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for May 30, 2025, before Judge Patricia Jefferson.
