Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Abdull Kareem McKinnon, 47, (DOB: 10/27/1973), of Detroit, in connection with a fatal car crash that killed four-year-old Dylan Watts, also of Detroit.

On August 25, 2021, at approximately 8:38 p.m., Detroit police officers were dispatched to a gas station in the 11620 block of East Seven Mile Road in Detroit for a reported crash. Upon arrival, officers located the Detroit Fire Department (DFD) on scene with the injured child. Detroit police officers and DFD members transported the child to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

It is alleged that the defendant ran over the child before fleeing the scene. Two hours after the incident the defendant went to the 9th Precinct and turned himself into the police.

Abdull Kareem McKinnon has been charged with one count of Failure to Stop at Scene of an Accident Causing Serious Impairment or Death, and one count of Driving While License Suspended, Revoked or Denied. *

The defendant was arraigned on August 28, 2021 in 36th District Court and given a $75,000 personal bond and was ordered to not drive. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for September 16, 2021 at 8:30 a.m. and the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for September 23, 2021 at 8:45 a.m. in 36th District Court.
