Detroit Man Charged in Carjacking and Fatal Shooting of Harper Woods Restaurant Owner
On December 6, 2013, at approximately 9:09 p.m., Mr. Avdyli was leaving his restaurant in the 19840 block of Kelly Road in Harper Woods when it is alleged that the defendant approached him, attempted to enter his car, and fired a handgun fatally wounding Mr. Avdyli. The defendant fled the scene in Mr. Avdyli's stolen car. Further facts and evidence in the case will be presented at the Preliminary Examination.
This cold case homicide has been closed due to the diligent investigation by the Harper Woods Police Department, which has resulted in the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office charging Defendant Conneilies. He is charged with one count of Felony Murder, one count of Carjacking, one count of Felon in Possession of a Firearm, and two counts of Felony Firearm. *
Defendant Conneilies was arraigned and remanded to jail today in 32A District Court. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for December 1, 2021 and the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for December 8, 2021 in 32A District Court before Judge Rebekah Coleman.
